One is better than none!

If you have watched some of the shows on TV or been involved in preparedness or have a crazy uncle who is a survivalist odds are you have heard the term....

Ok I need two of everything? What's the point of doing anything? I will never be able to buy two of everything!

No! Most of us do not have the means to buy two of everything. nor should we try to have two of everything. How we should read this is "It is good to have back ups!". Maybe a different way of saying it is "We should have more than one way to do something." This doesn't mean we have to go out and buy two of everything but I seen people doing it........

Heck I am guilty of this once or twice! Hence the reason I had to look at this idea in a different way. The one thing you have is better than the two things you were saving for. If you have to buy or do only one thing go with it. Now take the above photo, two rifles. Let's call this category 'Security', Do you need two rifles? Maybe the resources being spent to 'trick out' these two rifles would be better spent buying one rifle, one pistol and a shotgun? You have one of each but we cover more situations and needs by buying one and having it than waiting to buy until we can afford two. (side note, you do not need all this stuff on a rifle to be able to use it effectively)

The one self defense class you went to might be the one thing which gets you through a bad situation. I would highly recommend people do more than just take a single class or a class here or there although I have had friends get out of situations by remembering just one thing. Maybe the money you do not spend on the second rifle pays for some training? The idea is to layer your response to a situation. For the subject of Security you now have a rifle, pistol, shotgun and you are training! Gives you several ways to respond to a situation instead of just one way. Much better way of planning than having a set of identical rifles in the safe. (yes in California you better have them locked away in a safe....)

Maybe you got just a single revolver? But it is there when you need it?

Maybe it is the single CPR class you took which makes a difference?

Odds are you just need the single band aid to put everything back to normal!

Sure would be great if we all could lay on the ground and take a photo like this with our family but for most of us this is not going to happen. Most of us need enough to make it for a few days after a storm, cover a week work was light or to give us peace of mind when watching the news.

Let's not get caught up with a stash looking this this because we think we need to have two of every cool thing we see others have and not get enough food to feed our family...............

Having one first aid kit, one box of MREs, one extra flashlight or some extra cash on hand is far better and more realistic than having two of everything!

Almost none of us can afford to plan the way we see things on TV or the internet. DO NOT TRY TO! Each of us has to plan with what we have and what we need. Of course it would be nice to own a castle or bunker............

If I win the lottery, which I do not play, of course I am building one of these!!! Why wouldn't I? But wait....... If I strictly follow the two is one rule wouldn't I need two castles or bunkers?????

Maybe we just need the one tarp to improve our situation? Maybe the one box of MREs and a lighter, stuffed in the one backpack we have makes the difference?

Maybe the little extra money we have bribes a border guard? Maybe having just what we can carry makes a difference?

Maybe having one set of warm clothes, the ability to improvise transportation to carry more and the one pistol make the difference? Maybe the resources I put toward training with the pistol, learning new skills or getting in better shape will pay off when needed?

"Two is one and one is none" is a good little saying. The idea is even better when you see it differently. One in your hand is better than none. Cover all your bases with one, than if you have the ability, create some depth to your planning by having two.

As Always,

Stay Safe!

(ps can I get one of these for my daily commute?)
